Increasing attention to the environment, the balance of the microbiome, and the skin’s functional performance. These are the key words with which Givaudan Active Beauty presented itself at PCHi 2026, the international event for ‘Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients’ held in Hangzhou, China, from March 18 to 20. The company highlighted its hyaluronic acid-based delivery system, designed to enhance hydration performance, along with brightening active ingredients such as Evernityl™ and Illuminyl™ 388. HPC Today, media partner at the event, spoke with Jesse Wang, Regional Marketing Manager APAC – Givaudan Active Beauty.
“Our latest launch, VectorHyal, is a new technology which is more on capsulation, delivery system. Why did we develop it? Because we have identified several challenges for brand formulation and they are valuable for us to solve this challenge; the first is the stabilty of some active ingredients in the formulation, if they are stable the second challenge is their penetration: how deeper can they bring the biological benefit for the skin. And third, we also noticed some capsulation technology which can solve the challenge but somehow they might affect the appearance or transparency of the formulation -Mr. Wang says-. So based on this challenge we bring this new technology called VectorHyal to the world. Actually, for this kind of the science, Givaudan has already over 20 years for delivery system and then now, last year, we made the strategic partnership with Nanovetores, which is a company in Brazil”.
“VectorHyal was developed to solve these three challenges. First, it is based on Hyaluronic Acid, HA, because for Givaudan we research or develop HA this kind of ingredient for over 10 years and now we try to bring this technology to a new level. We use HA to build the capsulation. We also make the high mole HA to the very small size, a small capsulation which is a nano sized. Which means it can easily penetrate skin but also can capsulate the active ingredient or help protect and stabilize sensitive ingredients together. Also, because HA is naturally present in the skin and well-recognized, it is easier to absorb into our skin. That’s why we use the HA platform to build this to solve this challenge”.
In a constantly changing market, innovation is essential. “We always find the innovation. The difference from our competitors is that we always keep observing our consumers. We have the consumer insight department. Every year we conduct different projects in several countries—global consumer insight. We get valuable insight to know what consumers are thinking right now and what they need in the future. In our technology side, we have three pillars. Green Technology: Botanical plants. White Technology: Bio-fermentation, like our HA. Blue Technology: Ingredients from the marine or the ocean”.
“Regarding the environmental beauty trend and microbiome? The meeting with the Regional Marketing Manager APAC was the opportunity to talk about how Givaudan is leveraging precision beauty trends to address environmental, microbiome, and functional skin needs. Givaudan has been a pioneer in microbiome research. We started research early, in the year 2000. From now, it’s over 20 years of research. We have a whole center of experts in the south of France in Toulouse. They analyze all skin microbiome together based on DNA analysis. For microbiome technology we have three pillars: the first one is ‘Protect’: Inspired by our gut microbiome, we want to make our healthy microbes stay even longer. Balance: because sometimes with skin issues like itching or sensitive skin there is an imbalance of the microbiome, so we want ingredients for that. Activate: This is interesting, we not only respect them, but we also want to partnership with them, so we let our microbiome activate our ingredient”, Jesse Wang concludes.
