The use of cannabidiol and cannabis derivates in cosmetics

ABSTRACT

Cosmetics products containing Cannabidiol (CBD) or cannabis derivatives are booming on the market. In parallel, worldwide regulatory framework is being defined considering this new tendency. European Union is then harmonizing its requirements for the use of CBD. In USA, some states have implemented their specific requirements.

INTRODUCTION
The Cannabidiol (CBD) market is growing rapidly and the prospects for the coming years are particularly interesting. It is estimated that the CBD market in the US will grow from €2 billion in 2020 to €7 billion in 2025. Globally, the CBD market was estimated at $1.5 billion in 2018 and is expected to reach $24 billion by next year (1). Cosmetic products based on hemp derivatives or CBD are thus booming. The cosmetic properties highlighted by suppliers are soothing properties, reduced redness, tightness, dryness of the skin improved skin softness and comfort.
