John Wiley & Sons Inc. announces the imminent publication of a new book titled “Natural Surfactants: Science, Technology and Applications”.
Authored by Dr. Guido Bognolo and Dr. Krister Holmberg, two renowned experts in the field of surface active agents, it is unique in its kind, as for the first time it provides a bridge between academic research and industrial practice.
The book discusses the most relevant features of naturally occurring surfactants:
- Chemical structures and physico-chemical properties
- The biological activities
- The industrial production process, including, as appropriate, extraction or fermentation strategies and conditions, microorganism strains, growth medium composition, analytical methods, and purification techniques
- Human toxicity, environmental impact, sustainability and regulatory
- The production economics
- A comprehensive review of the existing industrial uses and the potential applications as it can be inferred from physico-chemical properties and market demands
About the authors:
Dr. Krister Holmberg was Professor of Surface Chemistry at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden from 1998 to 2016 and he is now Emeritus Professor. Before he joined Chalmers, he was Director of the Institute for Surface Chemistry in Stockholm and prior to that he was Research Director of Berol Nobel, a surfactant company. He has published over 330 research papers and written or edited seven books, mostly in the area of surface chemistry.
Dr. Guido Bognolo has worked in technical and commercial managerial positions in the major multinationals Procter & Gamble and Imperial Chemical Industries, always in the field of surface active agents. He was the founder and managing director of WSA Associates, a firm providing consulting services on technical and commercial matters for specialty chemicals and surface active agents. Currently he is free-lance consultant. Author of several publications on the technical and commercial aspects of surface active agents.
